Did you know that high prolactin levels can also be the cause of infertility?

Did you know that high prolactin levels can also be the cause of infertility?

What is prolactin?

Prolactin, also known as luteotropic hormone or luteotropin, is a protein found in both females and males.

Prolactin is mostly produced in the pituitary gland—a small hormone-secreting gland at the base of the brain. Prolactin plays a vital role in many of the body’s functions including ovulation, reproduction, immunity, and blood cell formation, but is primarily known for its role in stimulating lactation (breast milk production) and preventing women from getting pregnant when breastfeeding.

Basically, prolactin inhibits the production of LH and FSH, the hormones that stimulate the ovaries to mature & release an egg.

Prolactin inhibits two hormones necessary for ovulation: follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH). When you have high levels of prolactin in your blood (a condition called hyperprolactinemia), you will not ovulate and this will result in infertility.

SYMPTOMS

  • Unwanted production of breast milk.

  • Oestrogen deficiency in women

  • Testosterone deficiency in males.

  • anovulation (when an egg is not released during a menstrual cycle

  • amenorrhea (absence of periods)

  • oligomenorrhea (irregular periods)

  • infertility

  • Loss of libido

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Hirsutism

What causes hyperprolactinemia?

  • Benign (I.e. non cancerous) growth or tumour in the pituitary gland known as a prolactinoma

  • Hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid

  • High estrogen, either endogenous or from the pill

  • Medications such as antidepressants or antipsychotic

  • Low blood sugar levels

  • Anorexia nervosa

  • Stress

How to lower your prolactin levels?

  • Say no to alcohol, especially beer, because barley stimulates prolactin.

  • Address the root causes of underactive thyroid

  • Reduce stress with yoga, meditation, and long slow walks.

  • Consider adding vitamin B 6 rich foods in your diet like bananas, potatoes, chicken, spinach, and wild salmon.

  • Avoid high-intensity workouts or activities that overwhelm you

  • Get 7-8 hours of high quality sleep

  • Seek homeopathic treatment to lower your prolactin level

And of course don’t forget about homeopathic remedies. They are safe, gentle and effective in treating the root causes of high prolactin levels.

Few useful homeopathic remedies for high prolactin levels

Sepia

Irregular and scanty periods

Only leucorrhea in place of periods

Bearing down sensation in the pelvis

Pulsatilla

The menses are late and scanty

The menstrual flow lasts for too short a time. The menstrual blood may be of a dark or blackish colour.

Cyclamen

There is breast swelling with discharge of milk from breasts usually after periods. Swelling in breasts feels like a hard, tensed sensation with pain.  Stitches may be felt in the breast.

THRIVE WITH PCOS: THE PCOS AND HOMEOPATHY STUDY

THRIVE WITH PCOS: THE PCOS AND HOMEOPATHY STUDY

This is an international study using online consultations. This study has closed.

In the next few weeks I will be running a much needed Homeopathy STUDY OF PCOS. PCOS is a mysterious medical condition which is difficult to diagnose and affects your hormonal balance, resulting in “manly” facial hair or hair loss, cystic acne, crazy irregular periods, mood swings, ovarian cysts, fatigue, weight gain and much more.

Aim of the study

I’ve been helping women conquer their PCOS symptoms for over 18 years. PCOS is a silent killer and can’t be resolved with conventional medicine. Homeopathy offers great hope in resolving several symptoms associated with PCOS. I am interested in distinguishing which homeopathic remedies are more frequently called for in women with PCOS, especially when dealing with heavy menstrual bleeding, amenorrhea, hirsutism, insulin resistance and mood swings. This study will help me improve my knowledge on which PCOS cases respond well to homeopathic treatment.

Benefits of the study

You will benefit from:

  • specialist homeopathic treatment for your PCOS
  • an improvement in your symptoms
  • consultations at no cost

Criteria for the study

  1. You will commit to full 4 free homeopathic consultations over a period of 4 months. You may decide to continue with follow ups after 4 months.
  2. You agree to stop alternative treatments (such as sacro cranial osteopathy, reflexology, herbs or CBD oil, acupressure etc) during the study as these can antidote homeopathy.
  3. You are ready to wean yourself off coffee.
  4. You will buy and take prescribed homeopathic remedies as instructed and give feedback about response to remedy.
  5. You will not stop your PCOS medication prescribed by your doctor, until you decide to lower or stop the dosage with approval of your medical doctor.
  6. Remedies must be ordered by you at your cost. (I will let you know where and what to order)
  7. You will provide consent for me to publish the results. ( All your personal details will of course be kept confidential)
  8. You are happy to provide testimonials during the study or at the end of the study.

How the consultations will take place?

As homeopathic prescriptions are based on the patient’s own individualized symptoms, so it is quite possible to do an online consultation. I will be doing online consultations via Skype/phone/Zoom.

I am looking for candidates (Canada/US based, or around the world via video consults using Skype/Facebook/Zoom etc) who would like to take part in the study to see if homeopathy can help their PCOS. I will initially be offering four FREE consultations (that’s four months’ worth) for these  candidates worldwide

If you are interested in taking part in the study, ****BOOK A FREE 15 MINUTE DISCOVERY CHAT WITH ME****
If you are looking for support and information on all things natural for PCOS, please come over and say hi at my ****FACEBOOK SUPPORT GROUP****

Please share this with any other women you know who are struggling with their PCOS.

If you’re struggling with PCOS or its associated conditions and would like treatment outside the study then please get in touch or make an appointment. I work internationally via Skype/Facebook/Zoom and face-to-face in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada.

Disclaimer

This is not a clinical trial. This is a pilot study and every patient will get individualized prescription based on his own symptoms. The cut off point for taking new patients is 31st of August 2019.

POST PILL AMENORRHEA…CAN HOMEOPATHY BRING MY PERIODS BACK?

POST PILL AMENORRHEA…CAN HOMEOPATHY BRING MY PERIODS BACK?

Last year when Naomi walked in through my clinic doors she was dealing with post pill amenorrhea. She was off pill from last 1 year and still hadn’t seen a single sign of her periods. To make the matters worse she was also dealing with acne on her face and chest area.

Naomi was diagnosed with PCOS in her early teens. She was not overweight, no excessive hair growth but her ultrasound showed a cyst on her left ovary. She also had acne on her face.

Just these two symptoms made her a candidate for PCOS. She was devastated but accepted the treatment offered by her family doctor. Now years later, when she thought about having a child, she decided to quit the pill. She waited every month to see the bright red flow of her menstrual cycle but in vain. On top of that her acne also returned back, this time not just on the face, but on her chest area too. She decided to take a holistic approach this time.

Why post pill amenorrhea?

It happens quite often, when you come off pill you got hit with myriad of symptoms leaving you broken and devastated. When you are on the pill, your whole reproductive system is under the influence of synthetic hormones. Long-term management of your reproductive system with synthetic hormones can lead to absence of ovulation. Ovulation has stopped because your pituitary gland is confused and it has stopped talking to your ovaries and no longer signalling them to produce FSH (follicle stimulating hormone – to develop an egg) and LH (luteinizing hormone – to release the egg). Homeopathic detox of these synthetic hormones can restart the body’s natural control over the cycle.

DETOXING THE CONTRACEPTIVE PILL

In order to bring back the normal functionality of your reproductive system, it is essential to bring the hormones back into balance, to restore the vitality of your reproductive organs and I often do this by homeopathic hormone detox. Detoxing the pill restores pituitary gland and ovaries function back to normal and they start talking to each other again and ovulation resumes back. I started Naomi on three months contraceptive pill detox and just after 2 weeks she saw the bright red menstrual flow. It took a few more follow ups to regulate her cycle and to clear her acne for good. It’s been months and she hadn’t experienced another outbreak of acne and her cycles are also regular with bright red flow.

MY ENDOMETRIOSIS TREATMENT LED TO OSTEOPOROSIS…

MY ENDOMETRIOSIS TREATMENT LED TO OSTEOPOROSIS…

Last year Mandy came to see me for her osteoporosis. She was only 27 years old. She was having sharp features and was tall, and slim. When she said she came to see me for the treatment of osteoporosis, I was quite surprised to know that she is dealing with osteoporosis at such a young age but when she narrated further that she thinks she got this because of Lupron (lupron is a GnRH agonist prescribed for treatment of endometriosis) it made sense.

According to a survey people who were on lupron had 5-6% decline in bone mineral density over just 6 months of use. 16% of people reported brittle or cracking bones and 3% reported osteoporosis.

She was very frustrated and was wishing she never had lupron for treating her endometriosis. She told me that just 6 months ago she fractured her knee and was very concerned about the brittle nature of her bones. She had to undergo arthroscopic surgery to fix her torn meniscus. It had been six months and she was still not healed. She was enduring intense, sharp, and cutting pain. She was advised by her family doctor to have abdominal injections for sometime but was also told that it could lead to osteosarcoma; which is bone cancer. At that point she decided that she needs to figure out another route to treat her osteoporosis and endometriosis which can help her without any side effects.

After consultation I prescribed her Mag Phos and Calc Phos for few days. During her follow up appointment she told me she was feeling much better; now the intensity of pain was way less. This time I decided to prescribe her constitutional remedy along with continuation of calc phos. After few more follow ups she felt her bones are strengthened and no more pains were associated with endometriosis.

Homeopathy can help. I always advise to reach for homeopathy first.

SUPER HEAVY MENSTRUAL FLOW TO LIGHTER FLOW

SUPER HEAVY MENSTRUAL FLOW TO LIGHTER FLOW

Anne was changing a super tampon and pad every hour when she first came to see me. It wasn’t only that much, breast tenderness, irritability, and severe cramping before her periods were keeping her annoyed and frustrated. She tried various modalities to ease out her symptoms. She even tried birth control pill as suggested by her doctor but it also failed her. Exhausting her all the options, when she came to see me, she was in complete despair state and was looking for some answers for real this time.

What causes heavy periods?

Many times iron deficiency is cause of heavy periods or heavy periods can be cause of iron deficiency. It is chicken and egg story, who came first, hard to say. Another cause of heavy periods are estrogen dominance. Excessive estrogen also builds up the lining of the uterus more than normal, and often results in heavy periods accompanied by heavy clotting. Overly heavy periods or menorrhagia usually leaves women with overwhelming tiredness or weakness.

In Anna’s case her overly heavy periods were also making her a candidate of iron deficiency anemia as she was feeling tired and exhausted all day. Her excessive estrogen levels relative to her progesterone levels were the real cause of her menorrhagia. High estrogen levels keep your uterine lining intact for a longer period of time and flow had big clots.

I definitely needed to address her anemia, but correcting her hormone imbalance was my first priority as by balanced hormones stops heavy periods that can contribute to iron deficiency anemia. Homeopathic treatment worked well for her and she started to see lighter flow after two appointments only.
